Oct. 23rd, 2001 11:48 amok, the worst 4 day weekend I have EVER had...
Thursday afternoon if you watch the news you know that Scientific Atlanta (the company I work for) did a 10% layoff.. we saw it on the news then but none of us had herd anything about it. Thursday evening we got the e-mail "there will be 280 layoffs from the sugarloaf location" (where I work) crap... so much for going to the chamber, or doing ANYTHING that costs money. on top of that that evening I discovered that I had pink-eye again. grrr, I did get my video game however, devil may cry. it's a fun game, nice graphics but damn, I shouldn't be able to defete the game in 8 hours. total of 8 hours and 18 minutes to beat it.... the first time through!!! to give you an example of a good video game, final fantasy VII I had 1300 hours on before I beat sepherath. Devil my cry is an extension of onimushi, and that is blately obvious, not only with the game play, the graphics, the enemies, the puzzles. but even the plots seem to have come from the same brain.
after putting 5 1/2 hours on the game Friday I did chores, went to bed then had to get up at 4:00 in the morning to get ready for the plane trip. the plane would leave at 8:30. ok, most of you know how big hartsfield airport is. the line to get through the security checkpoint stretched all the way across the airport and ended at the doors where the buses come in.
We hadn't eaten yet so we all went to different places to grab some food. I went to a Chinese restraunt in the terminal which was the only thing open selling something resembling a breakfast. after I had ordered they inform me that they don't accept credit cards. wtf? what were these people thinking?
The plane trip was interesting. everyone else got 1st class.. me, I had to sit in row 38D, this is the LAST row in the plane, there was nobody sitting in the 5 rows in front of me. next is the train station, the trains in DC were built by the same people who built marta, they are almost the same trains. it was nice however to have a station manager on duty to help out with how to figure out their ticketing system. the train ride was another hour long. when we got to the station on the other end we called the hotel and they inform us that they only do pickups until 11:00. it was 11:20 by the time we had gotten there. so after talking to them they finally inform us that they will do them until 12:00 on the weekends and it being Friday it fit into the category. why didn't you just say that?!?!? they say that they are a mile and a half away and will be right there to pick us up... 40 minutes later the van shows up to get us... and it's at least 5 miles to the hotel.... to the room, nap time... I guess the nap lasted about an hour and a half, I don't remember...
without boring you with any more details it was a BAD weekend, the entire time I had pink eye so my eyes hurt and an ulcer on my bottom lip...
I did get about 200 pictures however, they will be up soon.
