I was supposed to go to rehercal last night but if any of you were stuck in traffic you know why I couldn't. it took me 20 minutes to go one and a half miles. argh!!!! I hope I didn't miss too much. it was a disaster. I am still not sure how there were 3 car fires with all the rain going on.

This week I have been working on the radio station. meaning staying up late every night. meaning I am DEAD tired. However it looks like it's paying off. The icecast server is up and running to do the streaming, it's been tested from multiple locations (that was Monday and Tuesday night) I left it streaming some of 'nothing inside's' mp3s in a loop for a while and it worked great. last night we set up the microphone and tested it... also added streaming music to the mixer and sent it out. it worked great!!

This weekend we are talking about setting up the other bedroom into a radio station. we have lots of plans for that. The hardest part about it is going to be finding out what I can and can't do from those bastards at the RIAA. right now I am just going to stream bands that I know, who are NOT part of the RIAA and who agree to let me stream some of their music. I have even written the RIAA to ask questions about their list of laws I have to abide by. According to the list I can't use ANY music even if I write it myself without paying them $10,000 plus $0.0007 per song. it's really sick.

I do plan on making it commercial radio so that I can afford to use the other bedroom but I am not going to have it flooded by commercials like the current stations. Not only that but I am going to announce local shows and events for Atlanta.

Hopefully this will be a lot of fun. I am going to need to get some DJ's who are willing to work for fun until I can get enough of a following to be able to pay for DJ's and be careful about the silly RIAA rules.

I have a very strange idea about what I am going to do on the streams for the icecast server but I am not sure if it will work. I will give it a shot when I get home tonight.

yesterday at work I found www.unixsucks.com. wow, this guy just really doesn't have a clue. he also doesn't post the arguments that people send him.... hmmm, I wonder why... oh, and I just love the 'I average 2 months of uptime.' This is my server:

8:40AM up 200 days, 16:48, 1 user, load averages: 0.00, 0.02, 0.00

2 months you say, that is 61 days at the most...

this one would be a over 2 years if it wasn't for my co-lo moving their power connections over. I am running, cgi, ftp, apache, name, sendmail, 2 versions of php, icecast and I used to run a jail. so as for not having much running on the system... HAHAHAHAHHA

like I said... too bad he doesn't post his arguments.

My main system isn't up right now at home because it's waiting on my desk to come back... I am really jonesing for it now. This weekend I am going to try and borrow a truck so I can go and pick my desk up. I am also going to try and get some parts from home depot so that I can re-build the frame to hold the monitors on my upper rack. right now that frame is being used to hold up the TV's. Speaking of which I got the 2 PS2's connected but you have to have the same game in each box to run them in tandom and there is no 2 player game that I have 2 copies of so I haven't been able to test and see if it works yet.

With all this rain the lake has been filling up again. it's no longer a mud puddle. We really need to fix our dock, one of the posts is not standing straight up any more.

[livejournal.com profile] gwinna is doing really well at work. looks like she might be able to take some of the management classes soon and possibly trainer classes as well. that is good, we NEED the money.

Hugme.org expired, I got it renewed right away so it was only down for a few hours but it sucked to have it down. I completely forgot about it until yesterday (when it went down) I renewed for 3 years so I should have it for a while. you know I got that thing in 97? My web page I started in 94 with firestar it was one of the free web page places (before geocities) and they gave me 12K of space. enough for a few pages and a couple of VERY SMALL images. some of the pages I built then I still have on the site, I don't think they are dated however. they are mostly in the poetry section.

well, I think I am now caught up on my journaling... talk to you later.

SPAM

I am REALLY tired of spam... REALLY tired of it.

so I have a new script. the header record for the e-mail gets turned into a file and goes into a directory. the domain name of the spammer and the spammers provider goes into a file. the script send an e-mail constantly to admin, root, president, abuse and webmaster at the domain (they end up getting about one every 10-15 minutes).

if you respond to the e-mail I send it goes right to /dev/null however in the e-mail address I put the e-mail 'i.am.an.asshole@tuxinternet.com' that they can e-mail me to get off of my list.

so far I have had 3 e-mail BEGGING to take me off of their list and promising that they would never send spam to me or any of my users again. I took them off the list and told them as long as none of my domains recieve unwanted e-mail from them they wouldn't get any more. (aperantly one of the places couldn't send mail out because they were getting so much from me, I was getting 3-5 e-mails a day from that IP. All different spammers)

it's a simple agreement, you don't send me unwanted e-mail and I won't send it to you. it's nice to have an unlimited bandwidth connection to the Internet on multiple OCX connections ;-)
