I am on my way out the door and my roommate, Lional, comes up and says "you are going to be in the middle of nowhere, I would feel much better if you take this with you. He hands me a .38. Uh, no... Ok, MAYBE if we had started this several weeks earlier and I had gone to a range and fired it several times. really learned how to shoot it, handle it, clean it... etc.... then I might possibly consider it... but I have never fired a hand gun before in my life, I have fired a shot gun and a rifle plenty of times but never a hand gun... there is NO WAY I am goi ng to take that chance... not only that but keeping it in my car on a long trip? uh... do you know what would happen if I was in a wreck?...sigh... he was very persistent but I finally convinced him to just let me carry a sword. So now ther e is a katana in the back of my car.

I ended up leaving much later than I thought, around 11:30 that evening because I had dinner with Anna. We at at cafe bombay and talked for a long time before I left for my trip. She has a really interesting job dealing with city archives. I really enjoyed the 'geek talk' on information we had. I also got her address so that I can send her a post card along the way, I should have done that with more people.

got through Georgia... then Alabama... there is nothing worth spitting on in Alabama the roads suck... there is even less in Mississippi and the roads are worse. I am starting to see a real pattern between my gas mileage and the quality of the roads in a state. at around 3:00 I got way too tired to be driving so I pulled into a camping spot some where in Mississippi. they had a sign on the door that said "we are closed just set up camp and will bill you later" I got in, set up the tent, slept for an hour and a half, got back up at 4:30 and back on the road. they were still closed so... oh well.. no money for them. I have decided that Louisiana is a dirty state, everything is dirty, the roads are nice but dirty, even the woods look dirtier than where I had just been. They have a 40 mile bridge with a speed limit sign every 100 yards. I think they do this because there didn't build shoulders on to the bridge so there is no way for a cop to sit and catch people speeding.... the speed limit was dropped from 70 to 55... I kept a steady 80m
ph pretty much the entire trip so far.

I stopped at a KOA camping spot at around 9:00 in the morning. I am the only one here using a tent. As was the case in the other camping spot. Everyone else has Tow behind or drivable campers. It seems that camper types don't like tent types, I was never aware of this animosity before. So Now I am in Louisiana about 3 hours out side of Houston. KOA is like the Ritz Carlton of campsites, they are really expensive, $21, but pretty nice. I am going to take a shower in a little while and clean up a bit. It wouldn't be cold today if it weren't for the chilling wind. argh!! there is a pretty lake here and you can rent paddle boats. I am sitting right now in a chair in my tent (it's warmer in here) plugged in to a power outlet (yes, every site has power) I am about to go back to bed and do some serious sleeping. i am going to need to get Internet access some how, I just realized I didn't write down all of the wonderful notes that Melon had sent me on New Mexico and Arizona.

I tummy doesn't like me from all the stuff I put in it to stay awake... heh, still no caffeine though ;-)

Drove into Houston, just had dinner with UnixHoney, her daughter danielle and daniell's friend kaykay.... she has grown so much since I saw her last. you will see them in the pictures...

we just got finished, they went home and I am on my way to new mexico!!

here are the pictures of the trip so far:
