Trip around the world

hugmeSo I am very much considering making a trip to Japan next month.
I can get the airline tickets for $604
I can get a place to stay for $250-$500 (I think I would go with the $500 and get a private room) This includes an internet connection.
then all I have to get after that is food, and entertainment stuff...
I am working out the vacation with my boss... I need to do some serious budgeting it will mean that I can spend NO money for the next couple of months and I would like to have at LEAST $1000 of pocket money. Then the expense of some of the things I would like to buy before the trip.
I want to sell the camera body have now (Canon Rebel) and upgrade it (Canon Rebel XT)... upon thinking about this I have heard that I can get a better deal on it in Japan.
- Another memory card. If I have the XT I can get an 8gig card, with the one I have now it will only handle up to a 2 gig one.
- External hard drive. to dump the pictures.
- New camera case. Something that will hold my extra lenses and flash
- There are a couple of lenses I would like but those can wait
- Large travel Luggage. I am going to be there 3 weeks, I have one BIG bag, I need another.
- Warm Clothes. Though it may be more fun to get those when I get there, I will be going in December and all.
- Tokyo maps, travel guides, manuals for getting around.
I am considering applying for a 0 interest credit card to take care of some of the things I would need before I go so that I can use my cash on hand when I get there.
Also some things I need to do before I would go.
listen to the Japanese CD's ALL THE TIME.
Study my maps of Tokyo.
Pinpoint locations I want to hit.
Learn the trains and subways.
Learn enough Hiragana to get around.
Learn the written names for stations and streets.
