anyone have a camera?

I need to borrow a video camera. I have been wanting to buy one but I would like to try some of them out and get better at using them first. I am looking for something that will make it easy for me to put the video on my computer then transfer it to the web. I would like something that won't produce scan lines when I show the monitor of my computer, many of the things I want to shoot are going to be computer related. Mostly stuff like "how to install an operating system"

Anyway enough about that, any one have something I can use for a little while and try out?

anyone good at editing video in digital format and can teach me a few tricks? I'ld be willing to make some trades if you need computer stuff!!

I hate to tell you man, but to my knowledge, there are very few, if any, video camcorders out there that wont show you the lines, at least not a scrolling block. My personal opinion, find, aquire,buy, whatever, a screen capturing program that will capture video as you use your computer. I made a short how to video several ears ago and that is what I used for the on screen stuff. What time frame are you looking at borrowing the camcorder? I have one that is fairly new that I use occasionally but might be needing it in the next weekend or so, and then again in mid Oct for a wedding I'm shooting.

Its very easy to convert to your computer because you are shooting dirrectly to a harddrive inside the camera (new toys, gotta lovem :) )

I have a couple of editing programs around here I think I can dig up, assuming you dont get a better offer that is.

there is a setting availible on some video cameras that will tweak the shutter speed so that it will not produce those scanning lines while shooting a television, the refresh rate for monitors being so much higher, not sure if it would be as easy to find as the television one... you might want to talk to the folks over at http://bhphotovideo.com/ sure, you can find stuff a tad bit cheaper ( like saving 200 bucks on a 4k camera) but their customer service record is worth it, and they know a lot about what they sell, they sell to professionals the world over (and my school)

that being said if you shoot an LCD screen that should just eliminate the problem all together as they dont have a verticle blanking interval

best bet is to just mess around with a camera and see what works, thats how i figured out the stuff on my camera. that, and im running off an hour and a half of sleep so i could just be wrong...

video editing? the one and best piece of advice is simply remember this: regardless of the subject matter you are still telling a story with sound and moving pictures, treating your project like this will help it come out better every time.

that's great for the video editing part but I was looking for more technical stuff... I don't even know how to cut out the parts I don't want or to paste two video files together. I learn fast but I need someone to show me the basics so I have a point to get started with.

as far as borrowing it I would like to do the project pretty soon, to start I will only need it for a week or so, I would like to get a few different cameras and try them out to find out what I like before I go and purchase one.

I have several editing programs, getting software isn't a problem. It's learning how to use it, I need a starting point. I haven't ever done any video editing before. I just need someone to sit down and show me the basics, once I get the concepts down I tend to learn the more advance stuff very fast.

I havent experimented with it at all, but I think its just the recording rate of the camvera vs the refresh rate of the monitor, maybe you can tweak both to actually match, not sure though. A little research might be easier than trail and error. I'll see what I can come up with.

Soon is no problem, will just have to come up with a plan to get it to you since I cant bring it on base, btu we can figure something out. Yeah, the basics of editing are pretty easy once you get a few projects under your belt. Not a biggie at all.

the only video editing program i am familiar with is final cut pro, but i here that avid isnt that much different.. problem is they are expensive as they wanna be

i think there is a cheaper version of avid coming out called avid adrenaline, but im not too sure on the details...

what you want to do is this.. take your video and cut it up into clips during the capture process (this is rather program specific so id rather know which program your using so i can try to help ya out). this, effectively, cuts out a lot of the junk that you would otherwise have in the shot, even then the program will let you choose the actual part of the clip that will appear in the final product using what are called in and out points. these points are also used in capturing to define what part of the video is going to be a part of this specific clip.

one thing that might be usefull is to poke around on the apple store websites and see which store is hosting a iLife 06 or a final cut pro demo/class thing and just watch it, even if your not using those particular programs they should be similar enough that it should help.

seeing as how i have zero time if you gimme the specifics on what gear and programs your using i can try to point you in the right direction

I don't have a camera for you... but i do have basic editing knowledge on final cut and could figure out avid (most likely) and would be more than happy to play with it again for a day while showing you what basic bits i know... once you get the basics down you'll sore though the program...
