Steal from Microsoft!!! really, whenever you get the chance, they are evil and should not have the right to take money from anyone.

so I have a problem. I have several word files, they need to be converted to HTML. I install office with html support. convert all of the powerpoint files fine (of course they convert to IMAGES.... shitty fucking program) but the word documents give the error "your html converter is out of date, please update it and try again" crap. so I download and install service packs 1 and 2 for office, update the copy of windows and try again. doesn't work. so I uninstall and reinsall the text converter... doesn't work.

I go to the microsoft web site and do a search for the error. the error page pops right up, with a discription, saying it's a known error that has to do with the converter that comes with windows 98. at the bottom of the page is how to fix the error. To fix the error you just have to buy and install frontpage that has the new text converter. or you can buy and install windows 2000. oh, but there is an evalution copy of frontpage.. I figured I would try that, all I need it to do is update the converter, I am never actually going to use frontpage..... the evaluation version is $10....Fuck That

and they wonder why they are being sued?!? fucking piece of shit company

what verson of word are you converting?
i have the templates and conversion wizards for most versions.
and i am happy to say they were not written by macrosponge.

OpenOffice (StarOffice after Sun made it O.S.) does a good job of that. I've been using it to write stuff for a few years now (I even used it to write _both_ PhreakNIC presentations I've done).

Yeah, what someone else said. StarOffice/OpenOffice can open MSFT files and save them as HTML.... and, with Star OFfice 6.0 the default file format is XML.
