Wachovia Bank
Jul. 9th, 2002 10:54 amI did finally recieve a call from Wachovia this morning, they are making some
changes to fix this problem.
The other day I went to the Wachovia branch on Pleasent Hill Road, I sat down
in the lobby. All of the tellers and customers are in the same room, even the
tellers for the drive through. The bank it self is completely quiet. The drive
through microphones are not very good quality, and for the tellers to
communicate with the customers they have to speak fairly loudly. The speakers
on the drive through also had to be turned way up. This combined with the bank
being so quiet I was able to hear every word the tellers and customers in the
drive through said... from a chair on the other side of the room.
By just going into the lobby and having a seat I was able to get 2 account
numbers with names and one social security number with name... can we say
ouch? What makes this such a cridical hack is that there is no law against
going into a lobby and sitting down with a notepad and pensil (yet).
I discussed with the head of security at Wachovia this morning this problem.
I was told that for a short term solution he had already sent information to
all the tellers explaining the problem and telling them not to handle
information such as account numbers verbally. For the long term they are
going to look at replacing the microphones with headsets and changing the
acustics in the room so that it's harder to hear something so far away. I
suggested that they also use white noise or music to keep the bank from being
SO quiet.
