Someone posted this cute story:

Recruiter: Mr. Jones, thank you for submitting your resume for the position
of concert pianist. While your credentials are impressive, we will not be
considering you at this time. Our client has indicated that they are not
interested in interviewing anyone who is unfamiliar with the works of
composer Cornelius F. Yarrdarr.

Jones: I've been a concert pianist for over 15 years. I've played from
Chopin to John Williams flawlessly before international audiences of
thousands. I've played Yarrdarr on occasion, but what's more important, I
can play any piece of music written for piano by sight. Show me the music:
I can play it.

Recruiter: [Condescending chuckle.] I'm sorry, Mr. Jones, but our client
insists that we show them only candidates who have specific *experience*
performing Yarrdarr's Sonata #5 in E minor. I don't see that on your
resume.

Jones: Actually, I played that number as a part of a recital at the White
House for President Clinton in 1997.

Recruiter: Ah, well, actually our client just informed us that they are only
interested in pianists who have performed that specific number for Queen
Margarethe II of Denmark. Was she in the audience on that occasion?

Jones: Uhh... no, I don't think so.

Recruiter: Again, I'm sorry. Good luck with your job search. We'll keep
your resume "on file" [stifles a snicker]. Good-bye.

it got me thinking, do human resources departments and recruiters know that they are considered the lowest form of life on the planet? if not shouldn't someone tell them?

here was my responce:

Me: I have 10 years of unix experience
Them: but you don't have any experience with chmod
Me: chmod is a basic unix command, I use it constantly
Them: It isn't on your resume and we can't take another copy
(this one isn't made up, it was from 2 days ago)

so I am considering this command:

ls /bin /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin >> ~/resume

do you think I am going to need to list the lib and stand directories as well?
and that won't include SUID/SGID which I have been rejected for not having as
well, hmm, how about:

ln -s /usr/man ~/resume

is that better?

So, in a perfect world there will be no lawyers, and no HR... sounds like a plan :)

That's like the recruiter that told me since I didn't have 'developed web pages using html' in my resume, (I have HTML listed as a skill for the appropriate years etc..) and the client wanted that specific phrase, that I was out of the running. Ummm okay

"Hi there...my name is Richard Petty, and I'm applying for a job as a automobile driver. Here is my resume..."

"Well, we're sorry, but you don't have listed down here 'knows how to use steering wheel' so, unfortunately, you aren't qualified for the job."

"But...I'm a professional NASCAR driver! Using the steering wheel is a natural part of driving any vehicle! Of course I have experience doing this!"

"We're sorry sir...but it isn't on your resume, and I'm not required to think for myself. Have a nice day..."

*GIGGLE*

I've used Windoze products for almost 10 years now...but I've never put down "experience with using a mouse" before. One would think that's rather a given, 'eh?

Yeah, but I could see thier point about not knowing how to use the steering wheel. I think those NASCAR only know how to turn left.
