I had a good night
melonaise took me to the symphony... Over all it was good, it's been a long time since I have done something like that. There were 4 soloist 2 sopranos a tenor and a baritone, one of the sopranos was incredible I was very impressed at her voice. the others were good but she was SO good the others only sounded mediocre by comparison.
The strings sounded nice.. some of the best I heard... there were around 10 violinist (one of them actually played a violettia, shh don't tell him) and 4 violaists they overpowered most of the other instruments.. I really like listening to the bassists they were wonderful!! the wind section was small but good, 2 oboes and 2 bassoons .. one of the oboe players kept banging her oboe on her leg... then she cleaned it twice on stage... I have never known anyone to spit THAT much!! the brass section was horrid!! the only part of the show I was really displeased with. One of the trombone player's instrument was about 1/2 the size it should be..... I haven't ever seen that on a trombone... strange.
the Chorus was great, she had a friend who was singing but we were in the nose-bleed section and couldn't make out one person from another so I narrowed it down to about 5 people. I am pretty sure she was three rows up and second from the right (my right) but I am not sure.. next time I go I am going to bring my binoculars. we were 2ed row from the last (last row was empty).
something strange in the program... under the list of instruments was a libriarian not sure what that is.. did they just spell librarian wrong, and if so why was it listed as an instrument? there are 2 people listed playing it... one of them was also a violinist the other one was listed as 'The Ann H. Rice Chair'. Did he name his chair or something? if so why didn't anyone else name their chairs? am I going crazy or is this strange...
I had a great time, Thank you melon!!
