hugme and your health part 2
Oct. 5th, 2004 11:40 amDiets... This is one that drives me nuts... people think that by cutting down how much they eat they are going to lose weight... then when they gain weight they get very confused and can't figure out why... well, here you go.
all animals humans included make adaptations in themselves in accordance with their environment. My dogs have a summer fur and a winter fur... these are controlled by the temperature of the air. My coi stop eating during the winter so they can hibernate... this is controlled by the type of food they find...
Your body works the same way. When you cut down your intake of food your body says "Hey!! There is very little food around, I should store some of this!" So you end up being lethargic because your body is trying not to waste any of the calories and store everything it can. In other words, you get bigger.
It gets really bad if you only eat once or twice a day... you will start gaining weight very quickly...
What you need to do is make your body think there is an abundance of food around. As soon as this happens you body will stop storing it. So how do you make that happen? don't get hungry...
The less meals you have the worse off you are... you should eat the same amount but spread it out over the entire day... Eating small amounts all day long is the trick... I eat breakfast twice, lunch twice, and supper 2-3 times... that way I am always full and my body doesn't think I need to store anything... Not only that but hunger is stressful for your body, it's not good for it at all. On top of losing weight you will be happier and healthier in general...
Now I am not saying that WHAT you eat doesn't play a part in this at all... keep the vitamins going... and mix this with exercise (see the previous post). You will loose weight a little bit more slowly than some of the 'fad' diets; however, it will come off at a more regular pace, you won't lose a bunch at once then just stop losing it, and you will develop a habit that is easy to keep so that it stays off.

Date: 2004-10-05 12:22 pm (UTC)i also want to reiterate what you said about eating things more than once. you of course are absolutely right on that one. i've noticed that if i eat 5 times a day insted of three, i constantly have a full feeling. (meal, snack, meal, snack, meal)
my 2 cents.

Date: 2004-10-05 12:50 pm (UTC)There was a girl I worked with at my old job who lost weight by keeping a bag of chips next to her desk... she would much on them constantly and actually took in MORE calories than she had been but she lost weight because her body saw the food was around constantly and so it got rid of it instead of storing it.

Date: 2004-10-05 05:37 pm (UTC)So tell me, what's a typical meal plan in a day for you? I'd have to wonder what kinds of stuff to eat to do that sort of thing. Seems like I can get an idea that something is good to eat, then I'll read somewhere how wrong I was...the only thing anyone seems to agree not to eat a lot of is fried foods and fast food in general.
