icq

ok, so I tried to install icq and realized why I don't use it, because it SUCKS. you can't just add someone to your list, you have to 'search' for them. well when you have their icq id which is a UNIQUE number it shouldn't take 20 fucking minutes to find the user.

both aim and icq are owned by aol. I am thinking of trying out the yahoo messenger but to do that I will have to use the everybuddy program and it's just as bad if not worse than icq. can no one come up with a decent chat program? there hasn't been ANYTHING good since irc. it's like we are going backwards with our technology.

Well there is also jabber, which can be used with Gabber (which is gtk). Personally I use everbuddy all the time, and except that I can't do file transfers I have no problem with it

I hated everybuddy... I tried out gicq which is a gtk icq program it had a serious lack of functionality.

I will look up jabber. is it just for linux? I do run a linux kernal but try to keep the programs using it to a minium.

There's Trillian, which rund MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, and IRC out of one program.

how can any one put up with the slowness, the reboots, and the expence...

no, but you have to run a microsoft product to run it... I don't have any of those, especially at work, I can run any program with a port for FreeBSD, Linux or Solaris.

I just like it because it doesn't have any annoying sounds I have to disable.
