make a plan and run with it
May. 27th, 2006 08:17 amSo we went to the dealership, but instead of going to the used car area, we went to the new car area and started looking. We test drove a few of the trucks and I found a nice F150 that I really liked. We talked to the sales guy for a while and sat down as if we were going to buy it. We went though the entire process for buying the truck up to the point where we started talking money and he asked about a trade in.
As soon as he said that, I whipped out all the paperwork from my back pocket concerning the mustang and laid it out on the table. We told him about all the problems, all the things that had happened and said that if he could get them resolved I would be willing to buy the truck.
He made a direct bee-line for the general manager who came in and started talking to us. He looked up all the paperwork for the car and found out about the transmission and what had happened. He was pretty obviously angry at the used car place at this point. As soon as we mentioned the catalytic converter he was almost at a loss for words, he was so mad at the used car manager for selling me that car he started stuttering and was having a hard time coming up with what to say (pretty amazing for a sales guy).
At this point he wrote me a deal on a 2006 F-150 (the one I had been looking at and liked) for the same thing I paid for the 2002 Mustang. Which made it a 1 to 1 trade except the tax.
In the end I got a NEW truck for REALLY, REALLY cheap. The mustang is gone, he paid for the rental car and all my expenses incurred with the mustang. The used car manager is going to get an earful I'm SURE and may not be there next week. I am MUCH happier at this point and I have a NEW truck with a 5 year 75,000 mile warranty covering everything except wear and tear parts.
The people at the new car area were very nice, they handled everything really, really well. The used car area, well, lets just say the finance manager seemed to be nice, but then like I said it may be a different group of people next week.
