Date: 2006-07-19 06:25 pm (UTC)or as naturally as a bonsi tree anyway, I have done this experiment with rose buses many years ago. it's the same general thing done by the chinese many thousands of years ago to come up with the nectarine.
This is the experiment I did with rose bushes:
take 2 rose bushes 2-4 years old each, one red and one white. trim them, cut the stem 3 inches from the ground in the shape of a V. switch the plants, put the red top on the white bottom and the white bottom on the red top. Now use some wire and tighten it hard around the stem of the plant.
the next year you will get modified roses, sometimes it comes out with roses that have 1/2 red and 1/2 white pedels, sometimes it comes out with strange lines on the pedals, but you have just geneticly altered a rose bush.
This is the same way the nectarine was modified so long ago by the chinese. If you don't believe me go and buy a peach and a plum tree for yourself and find out.

Anyway, humans have been modifying their food for much longer than hippies have been around. I think they have more of a problem with doing things like inserting fish genes in tomatoes (which you can't do outside a lab)
outside a lab?
