Nectarines are not "modified", but a natural mutation that happened over 2000 years ago in china. I would say they are safe for hippies.

actually they are modified, NOT naturally...

or as naturally as a bonsi tree anyway, I have done this experiment with rose buses many years ago. it's the same general thing done by the chinese many thousands of years ago to come up with the nectarine.

This is the experiment I did with rose bushes:

take 2 rose bushes 2-4 years old each, one red and one white. trim them, cut the stem 3 inches from the ground in the shape of a V. switch the plants, put the red top on the white bottom and the white bottom on the red top. Now use some wire and tighten it hard around the stem of the plant.

the next year you will get modified roses, sometimes it comes out with roses that have 1/2 red and 1/2 white pedels, sometimes it comes out with strange lines on the pedals, but you have just geneticly altered a rose bush.

This is the same way the nectarine was modified so long ago by the chinese. If you don't believe me go and buy a peach and a plum tree for yourself and find out.

True, but whether it was a human influnced are not, the genetic mutations are a natural process. It's the cells ability to mutate that is natural. You just set up the conditions favorable to mutation.

We need a real hippie to close these real issue... will nectariens kill a tree hugger? (eaten, not thrown)

nectarines=yucky
taste of watered down rotten peach

Anyway, humans have been modifying their food for much longer than hippies have been around. I think they have more of a problem with doing things like inserting fish genes in tomatoes (which you can't do outside a lab)

outside a lab?

I just love the silly definition of natural people like to put on things.. as though we're capable of doing anything unnatural.. people are natural.. what we do is natural.. natural does not equal safe or good... snake venom is natural... but not so healthy to drink.

just a rant I get into now and then when people start on the we cant do that because it's not natural or eat this.. it's all natural so its got to be good for you

Well I would ask you to take a trip back to days of BBSing... Days at the Denny's after a night at the Chamber... And then perhaps you will remember. Does that help? Or are you going to require me to spell it out.
