more reasons why Microsoft sucks
Jan. 9th, 2008 11:06 amin my cube I have a sticker that says "Microsoft will create something that doesn't suck when they start manufacturing vacuum cleaners" that held very true today.
so we have a site... we will say test.net that uses ssl encryption. there are many variants of this site... www.test.net test123.test.net...etc... so for the certificate we use a wildcard. *.test.net
This works in every browser...except one... IE7 it works in some of the previous version we have tried... but not IE7...
Microsoft's official stance is that this is a 'security feature' and not a bug. I have 2 things I think it could be... first it may be a bug they just don't want to fix so they are calling it a "new standard" or second... it could be a way for cert locations to make money by charging companies for every variation of the web site.
either way it's just more Microsoft stupidity...

Date: 2008-01-09 04:41 pm (UTC)There is an old bug I loved with IE7... you would give it a meta tag pointing to a ftp site called "ftp://*\." (I think that was it) and it would completely crash the host machine... I set up a page with that on it and would tell people to go to it... I pissed off SO many people, but they all switched to a different browser... :-)
