for those of you who don't know, my computer is actually 2... there is on keyboard and one mouse but 6 monitors, 5 of them are on a unix box and 1 is a windows box. (keyboard and mouse work for all 6 monitors).

Now that the room down here is cool I am actually in the mood to do some work, so I fixed some servers and went looking through some of the systems I have around, in the big pile of stuff I found all kinds of hardware I didn't know I had extra of. an amd k6-2 333 AT motherboard and CPU (that became lodo, kind of files) and several harddrives, 2 6 gig, 1 8 gig and a 20 gig. good find!!! I can replace the 4 gig I have on the windows box.

so I put on a new copy of windows 98, get all the motherboard drivers and install them, transfer everything over and go to browse the web, I try to open ie and it tells me I have to have a modem... there is a network card in the computer however it's not giving me the option to use the network card, it's telling me that it can only connect with a modem, I run the internet connection wizard and it tells me "Failed to load the Internet Connection wizard helper componet" that is the only error it gives. after 4 fresh installs, same thing.

a friend of mine gave me a copy of windows 2000 I figure I will mess with that, the install has failed twice now in different places, I am reformating the drive and tring again... this installation of a new drive has now taken over 10 hours. You know I can have FreeBSD installed and running in 15 minuites, if I have problems it may take me an hour

How the hell do you stupid windows users put up with this crap?!?

on a happier note lodo is back up and I didn't lose any mp3's... so I have my music back (woo-woo)

We IT people LOVE to hate Micro$oft and we bitch about how much of a pain in the ass it is, but we would not have jobs if it where not for Micro$oft....Kind of a catch 22...

except that:
A: I don't have a job
B: I would have a job if more companies ran operating systems other than windows

Oh, I agree. Unfortunately, for *me*, setting up FreeBSD isn't much easier. Very huge learning curve.

I've never ever had that problem with Win98 that you did. You using the 1st edition or 2nd? I have both...

I hate win98 it crashed all the freaking time!!!!! So i installed xp, micros says it does not crash, it crashed within 10 minutes, it was a super crash too, i had to unplug the puter to get it to reboot, plus it still crashes on occation. I know linux but i don't know it that well, whenever i learning the inner workings, i might replace win.

If you need any assistance with win2k, feel free to ask.

This is off topic, but I was wondering if you'll be at SciFi Summer this weekend?

If not, ::virtual hugs::
