So I stop into suntrust to cash a check. I had to float a check this weekend so I wanted to get cash to bring to my credit union. I go to the teller and she asks for a thumbprint. I say no. she says I will have to talk to customer services. I told customer service that I refused the thumb print. she said I had to give a thumb print or they couldn't cash my check. I told her that according to georgia law she had to... she called the branch manager... this was the branch managers responce:

"We know it's the law, we don't care what the law is, it's corporate policy you can call the FTC they won't do anything about it. We can't cash your check."

wow, now that is a statement.

needless to say I took my check to my credit union and asked (begged) them to put it directly into my account and waver the 3 day waiting period. they said sure no problem... I love my credit union.

on a side note do you know why there is a three day waiting period? it's not for security or so that they can check the account, that is instant. the bank earns intrest on YOUR money for hold it for that three days. (isn't that also known as stealing?) it's one of those fines that you don't see (there are LOTS of them)

there is a three to seven day waiting period depending on were the original check is drawn on. If it is drawn on the same bank, then it will clear by midnight. If it is not drawn on the same bank, then they have to go threw the fed reserve then go threw the bank, then it comes back to your bank....which takes a few days. If you ahve good standing with a regular bank (and not a credit union) it posts by midnight cuz they just take your word that the funds are good. I'm a banker, can't ya tell.

credit unions rock!

I love my credit union, and not just because I have Garfield checks. The only downside is that when you want to deposit checks around and above $18k, they do not want to clear it for a few days unless (not making this up) it has the word "payroll" printed on it somewhere, even if you type it on there yourself. I am still glad the "Know-your-customer" bill never passed. spooky stuff. I would recommend credit unions to pretty much anyone.

What's the matter, can't balance your checkbook and live on a budget? Talk about 'clueless'....okay, okay. I don't want to start a flame war...you just kinda pissed me off with your off-handed remarks about teachers. Have a good day! :>)

if you are trying to fight a battle with me you picked the wrong one. I was unemployed for 11 months and still managed to support my self and 2 people, pay my bills and 1500 in rent every month...

I'm not trying to fight at all, you are the one that put down a whole group of people. As far as that goes, education is the largest 'profession', er, occupation there is so when you dis teachers, you are being critcal of the plurality of working people. I feel very defensive about it, because I have had a very difficult life in some ways. I don't have the happieness that you seem to enjoy. Again, I'm NOT critizing anyone - I was joking.

Incidently, how did you manage to support a family while being unemployed? Did you sell crack or something? Just kidding, lighten up, will ya?
