I got my bit unix box working again, mostly, it at least posts now however I am going to have to get a new AGP card for it. they only ones I have left are the voodoo3 3500's with that horible cord on them and some appian duel head cards that only work in windows. (they do WIERD stuff in unix). I have to get it ready for phreaknic now. a lot of work. I think I may use the smaller boxes I got for the monopoly game. I have plenty of monitors and I can set the screen rez to 640x480 and then run nothing but the game on there, I will have to figure out how to get 98 to run the game on boot instead of progman I think it's just a line in win.ini

So this morning I come into work and the first question I get is "will you change my password for me?" this is an odd request so I ask "why?" the answer comes as "because the 'A' key on my keyboard isn't working"...... wow, I was just speechless. I did go and fix his keyboard.

Unless you have to pass some odd string of commands to the game's .exe, why not just dump a shortcut to the game's .exe into the Startup folder, under Programs in the Start menu on the win98 box? I remember doing that with windows 3.1 because I didn't know better and just wanted to store my own icons there for programs I used (I think I was, uh, 12 or something when I did that, I don't remember) which turned what was a usable box into a Dune II only machine. Easily fixed from the C: prompt in MS-DOS, but you get the idea.

What is phreaknic?

lots of reasons. management is the main one, when you edit the win.ini not to run progman and to run your program instead NOTHING else runs and windows becomes as stable as the program you are running.

the next reason is speed, these are pentium 133's with 32 meg of memory... it's going to be 1/4 of the cpu cycles and memory space to run it without a progman, desktop, calender....etc than it is with all that junk you don't need running.
