So I went to school today to see if I could get my horrible grades fixed. I went right to the top and talked to the VP of registration. I told him the story about the hospital and that I had to drop out. also that I had talked to my advisors (several actually) and they were about as useless as a pet rock.

he said "haven't you filled out an academic renewal form?"

well it turns out that every one I had talked to previously was supposed to tell me about this. I get to keep all of my credits to go towards graduating but my GPA gets reset (which is good as it was a 0.27)

woo-woo!! I am so happy!!

However I am a little bit pissed that I had to go through all of this just to find out that this thing existed, don't they have training for advisors at all?

I read it to him over the phone since he lives barely a mile away so I might not see him for weeks. ;) It was the same as Stef's. "You find beauty in ordinary things. Don't lose this ability."

Yay, I'm glad it worked out! Boo that it took so long. There's a Calculus class MW at 7:30 you should take, because my class is at 7:30 too. ;) We could even go to the GYM together afterwards! Or study, whatever. ;)

I hope there isn't too much conflict with Cinderella, though. :/ Fortunately ASC is on winter break until Jan 20-something while SPSU starts back Jan 8th or so. Maybe for those few weeks you could switch to an earlier class.

I want more detail on this academic renewal form please.

Either IM me or e-mail me please.

Or just tell me to call the damn school I went to and find out from them. ;)

Thanks either way.

academic renewal

it's a form for people who have been away from school for mor than 5 years. it's easy to get if you haven't been to ANY schools in that time but if you have transfered credits it makes it VERY dificult to get.

you have to do it right when you start school back up. you also need to ask registration for it by name... directly.

I was away for 10 years and after telling them my story of 'why' they told me that I was the reason that the form was created. I had to sign a sheet, it is being approved by a couple of department heads, I have to go back and sign again thursday, it gets approved by the president then I sign again and it goes through.

it took me a long time to figure out all of that... and I couldn't have done it with out the wonderful help of [livejournal.com profile] melonaise and her boy.

Fantastic.

Yes, its been almost 10 years for me too. Granted I have a "semi-rough life story" about my time spent in college, I still would receive the blame for the failed grades.
This gives me hope. So they are willing to wipe out the failing grades, is that it? Or do they start over completely?

Thank you VERY much.

Oh, please thank them for me too.

Boy talked to the secretaries he knows, and none of them had even heard of an "academic renewal" or anything like it. Apparently it's reserved for people who pester the VP. ;)
