this is REALLY, REALLY bad.. I don't think 99% of you can really fathom how bad this is for more than just the 'warfare in space' reason. You can't have thousands of pices of debree orbiting the earth at mach 32. we are REALLY fucking ourself over.

Of all the things Bush could have done... this is the worse... I disagreed with him many times before but this is just insane. He doesn't understand what's going on or the importance of it.

This is WORSE than this war we are still in for some strange reason.

here is the story (from several sources of course):

we need a super-hero, is Tom Baker available?

... I'm unclear on exactly what Bush did in this case.

Although his policy claiming the right to "deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities" is laughable, I'm not sure the Chinese blew up their satellite just to make him look powerless.

I agree. China blew up the satellite to show they are a world power in the same sort of a way a child makes a stand against adults.

Whats really bad is they are the most powerful of the communists and they have taken the place of the USSR. The world is about to enter another cold war as a result.

You also fail to point out that Bush approved what was already approved by The Senate and the house. You want to pin the blame for the whole government on him. There is three critical parts of our government and you cant tag him with the other 2/3's. Our other elected officials are just as much to blame in most cases including this. He's just the figure head that's easy to pick out of the mess that is our government.

So we put a stop to our senseless anti-Communism stance and there won't be a Cold War. Communism is NOT a threat to us or to capitalism, in any way whatsoever, and we need to stop treating Communist nations (China, Cuba, etc.) like they are out to get us.

If they are trying to threaten us then, quite frankly, it's our own fault. We aren't the only players on the field; we need to quit playing "policeman" and start playing "civilized country".

So you don't concider blowing a satellite out of the sky to show that they can pick us or anybody else in the free world off at will and turning their nose up at the UN regularly a threat?

That was a power play if you didn't get it. It was purposly designed show of might and it was intend to provoke the UN in a child like way.

I agree we should stop playing policeman for every problem in the world. We should make the rest of the UN member nations pull their fair share since it seems the rest of them want US to take care of problems they identify.

TRY to see the whole story...not just he bias.

I'm certainly not excusing China. I'm just saying we had this coming. We don't exactly play by the UN's rules, either, if you haven't noticed. We can't keep playing by our own rules.

We need to stop treating other nations like enemies or else they will become enemies. China is not out to get us, but the way we've been behaving, I'm not so sure this will continue to hold true. If we keep looking for a new Cold War, we're going find ourselves one. It will be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, either we're WITH you or we're AGAINST you, as Bush so famously declared.

Since norway didn't join the war on Iraq (although we did involve ourselves in Afghanistan), I guess we're AGAINST you.

When can we expect the bombs? We're an easier target than Iran and North Korea.

If the U.S attacked Norway, would the rest of the world finally take action against us? I'd really like to see some of these American politicians held responsible for once; they act like they've seen a few too many "good vs. evil"-themed action movies.

Norway has a state church and religion intervowen (sic) into the constitution.

Unfortunately, Bush won't attack us, see, its HIS religion we're so happy about ;)

We also, twice, voted a priest as PM.

However, said priest was fond of alcohol and cigars and taking prozac.

How is any of this Bush's fault?

p.s.

Ronald Reagan saw this coming back in the eighties and everyone laughed at him...remember Star Wars?...

When President Hillary proposes this in 2009, it'll be hailed as great wisdom and foresight and doing it for the children...because it'll be a Democrat proposing it...

no laughter here...after the inauguration she'll want to do something to show she and the Dems have cojones and dont loathe the military...hence she'll order a conflict someplace else to show her strength...hopefully not space, but I put nothing past her...

I read the space policy and the news surrounding it back in August and it's not clear to me that it was actually a substantive change but rather a slightly more explicit rewording of a very long-standing position.

I agree with parts of it and not with others. Seeking to prevent people from developing anti-satellite weapons is a Good Thing (see STS-41-G and Solwind from the mid 1980s) technologically and politically due to their destabilising influences. Seeking unipolarity not so much, since it shows a lack of respect and trust for the entire rest of the world whether they be good or bad.
