Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] melonaise took me to southern tech and I applied to go back to school. they accepted my application and I did it!! I am now a student and I start in January. I have to figure out what classes I am going to take and sign up, oh, and of course pay for it ;-) I wonder if there are any good grants. I heard there were a couple of them for eagle scouts but have never been able to find any information on it.

My laptop is driving me insane. Every time I upgrade it something no longer works on it. now I can't get it to display at 1024X768. it's very sad. grrr, I may have to turn this into a server and see if I can find another one dumpster diving or something.

I think I have plans for this weekend but I am not sure what they are. well besides going to [livejournal.com profile] lisabelle's concert

I don't think my cell phone works. it doesn't ring except after the call when the voicemail rings. strange...

it would be an understatement to say that I am nervous about going to back to school. I think 'it scares the hell out of me' would be an understatement as well. I just know that I will be the old guy at the back of the class. I don't know what I want to take either, I have a catalog full of classes and not a clue. I am going today to see if I can get an advisor, I wonder if Daiman can do that for me. I am also going to see if I can use my resume to get out of some of the classes considering 1/2 of them I am sure I could teach. especially the 'theatre appreciation' one.

the proper response here may be 'eep'

Hey! It's great that you're going back to school!
It's tough, that's for sure, but I'm having fun (stressful fun, but fun none-the-less) going back to school.

Good luck with it!!

You will do fine! I only had one semester behind me from 10 years before when I went back at 27!

You're gonna be FINE. I mean, a lot of the classes will probably be 90% bullshit, but at least you can bring a shovel. Congrats and good luck!

(And hope you can come tonight! :)

la, la, la!!

[livejournal.com profile] dwivian is finishing up his undergrad at spsu, so you can't be the *oldest* guy at the back of the class. ;)

http://www.jessicasmithcarter.com works at spsu, I'm not sure what department (not admissions). She's applying to go to spsu, too, I'm not sure if she's going for the spring or next fall, though.

I attend Georgia State University and there is always someone older than you in at least one class. There's a guy in his 50s or 60s in my polisci class and a lot of people in the medical community returning to get degrees so that they can go to med school in organic chemistry. The age of the average student increases as the day goes on because most of the 'older' students also have full time jobs.

Among the sights I have seen include a mother with a baby carriage and two kids with her in class; a woman in chem II and another in my gender studies class last year who brought her son with her to school when the baby sitter flaked out; lastly, at least four of the guys in my Java class are in their 30s and 40s.

Hey, at least you aren't going to some expensive private college where 'weird' is starting school at the ripe old age of 21 (which one of my friends did).
