Ok, so I have been normally having a banana for lunch. but sometimes I would like something hot... I want something I can just pick up and bring in and I don't have to prepare before. It's nice when there are leftovers but that isn't always the case.. I would like something I can keep here either at my desk or in the refrigerator.

I need something low calorie.. which isn't too much of a problem, there are lots of things that qualify... the problem is the sodium level. it's INSANE on anything prepackaged... and we wonder why heart attacks in this country are so high...

so what do all of you bring to work that you like... have any suggestions for something low calorie and low sodium?

We need help!

Saturday during daylight hours we need some help working on the house!

If you have ever wanted to know more about construction this is the time. Trust me, you will learn a lot and help us out at the same time. Don't worry if you feel you wouldn't be able to help.. we need people doing all sorts of things there is always some way everyone can help out.

We will provide food and drink as bribe payment.

drop me an e-mail or just respond to this if you think you can make it

Thank you all in advance!

got one more yesterday evening, 2 more last night....

People have given a lot of advice and I have read a lot online.... most of it I didn't follow and it turns out didn't work for me anyway...

myth 1: rats are smart, they will figure out where your traps are and avoid those locations

I haven't seen this to be true... I've gotten at least one every night since I started 3 nights ago... read about my tricks below

myth 2: Put out meat for rats and seeds or nuts for mice...

I use peanut butter, they love it. It's very aromatic so they can smell it from far away.

myth 3: rats are smart enough to avoid traps which have been used before due to the smell of the old rat.

nope, used some of the traps several times now.

here is what I've found works best

use peanut butter
figure out their path (look for droppings) and put the traps near it
put the food UNDER the trigger so they have to push on the trigger to get to it
place the trigger in the middle of the spring bar so that if it's pushed in either direction it goes off.

hopefully this won't last much longer and I am close to getting all of them.

I put out 3 traps last night. When I came down this morning 2 of them had fresh rats in them. the third one still had peanut butter in it, I didn't check to see if it had been nibbled on yet. The 2 new rats were a fraction of the size of the one yesterday... Just makes me wonder how many I'm going to get... I don't know if that's all of them or not. Somehow I'm thinking not.

Ok so all this time I've been thinking it's a few mice terrorizing the kitchen and dishwasher. But they have been destroying the mousetraps or running off with them.

Well last night I got a few rat traps... The big ones. Well I got one of them... He was around 2.5 lbs and just the body was around 8 inches long... It's a huge fucking rat.... So now I need to get the rest of them!! There are at least 2 more...

rough week

The last week has been really rough...

Work has been hell...we are having some serious problems with some of our vendors... but that's actually small...

We were gone from the house for 2 weeks during the holidays... we finally did the dishes and the kitchen started to fill up with water. I pulled out the dishwasher and mice had eaten through the top of the dishwasher along with destroying the drainage hose. so we had to buy a new dishwasher.... ugh... we had it put in Friday and didn't have a problem but did a second load and it started to leak again. I had a hell of a time getting the new dishwasher out. It turns out the guy who put it in made the power cable so short that I had to cut it just to get the damn thing out. there is a hole in the new drain pipe. So now I need to replace the drain pipe AND the power.

I put out mouse traps last night... 4 of them. When I checked them this morning there was 1 trap left and it had been destroyed. Today I am going to go out and get the big rat traps. lots of them.

we are having some trouble with the guy who is working on the house, we haven't heard from him in a few weeks. I left him a message every freaking day last week. well he finally called last night after I called one of his partners and told him everything going on. He says he will be there Tuesday but we will see.

I am working in the shop... It's a little frustrating. There are some tools I would like which I can't really afford right now. That's tough... but I can make due with what I have. some of the tools I'm having to get very creative to make work. They are nice tools but it's hard to do some of the things I want to do with them. For example my dato blade. The chuck on my table saw isn't really long enough for a dato blade so I'm having to go and find a bushing to make up for it. I can use it now but the cuts aren't as clean as I would like. I can get around all of that.. the biggest problem I'm having is space.. there just isn't the space I would like to have for a nice shop. It's hard to work in such a confined space sometimes. My router table sits on a shelf, to use it I have to pull it out and set it on top of my table saw as there is no other place to put it. I built a high work bench (because I'm so tall) I can't even use because it's so full of junk.

hopefully this week will be better, I'm going to try to fix the dishwasher today, I'm going to get some rat traps. I have someone I KNOW will do work coming out I'm meeting this afternoon to work on part of the house. I'm also going to try to clean a little bit of the garage every day so that I have more space.

Maybe I will have gotten rid of some of my frustration by the end of the week :-)

in my cube I have a sticker that says "Microsoft will create something that doesn't suck when they start manufacturing vacuum cleaners" that held very true today.

so we have a site... we will say test.net that uses ssl encryption. there are many variants of this site... www.test.net test123.test.net...etc... so for the certificate we use a wildcard. *.test.net

This works in every browser...except one... IE7 it works in some of the previous version we have tried... but not IE7...

Microsoft's official stance is that this is a 'security feature' and not a bug. I have 2 things I think it could be... first it may be a bug they just don't want to fix so they are calling it a "new standard" or second... it could be a way for cert locations to make money by charging companies for every variation of the web site.

either way it's just more Microsoft stupidity...

Do you still buy movies online? seriously? well stop... bit torrent them... why?

well, they are getting nastier and nastier about DRM's... basicly, if you upgrade your HARDWARE microsoft and netflix feel it's fully within their rights to not only revoke your license for what you bought from them, but what you bought from ANYONE. That's right, your hardware... if you upgrade to a system that can support a higher resolution of the movie they feel you should have to buy it again... even though it's the same movie... AND that you should have to rebuild all your licenses EVEN if it's your own media.

Think I'm kidding? here you go:

http://davisfreeberg.com/2008/01/03/bad-copp-no-netflix/

seriously people.. go download this software: http://www.bitcomet.com/
then go to google, type in "[movie title] torrent" and start replacing your collection with something that has the drm's ripped off of them so they can't touch them.

hell, I won't even keep those movies on a windows box. They are on a file server running FreeBSD to make SURE they can't harm my files.

Last night my sinuses were really bothering me again, we are trying to figure out what's going to fix it. It's very dry in the room so we are thinking it's a humidity issue.... my head was pounding so I went out to get a humidifier, at almost midnight on a sunday night the only place open was Walmart. So that's where I went. Picked up the humidifier and bought it... then on the way out the door there was a 'may I see your receipt' guy. ugh... I hate this... I REALLY hate this!!! I can't believe companies are doing this now, you can't get any worse customer service than this, seriously!!

So the guy says "Do you have your receipt" as I'm walking by him... I answer "yes" and keep walking... he asks "may I see it?" I say "no" now he is following me!!! WTF? he says "well why not?" I answer "because I don't like being searched" he stopped following me at that point. maybe he realized how stupid his job is... but I doubt it...

remember, if you get asked about your receipt... SAY NO!!! DO NOT SUBMIT TO A SEARCH!!

so there is all this crap in the news about the steroid problems in baseball. It's the #1 news story right now....

I'm confused... how is this news? did people not know this already? I thought this was common knowledge, I mean, how exactly could you NOT have known this. You would have to be living in a box. duh...

Oh, for those of you who didn't know this already and are surprised by this news story - wrestling is not real, neither is santa and the easter bunny... sorry to break it to you.... you have to find out sometime, you know, BEFORE it reaches the main news story.

ok... so this is how T-mobile works

If you go into a roaming area.. in our case the cruise ship... your phone is registered as roaming. if you turn your phone off it's STILL registered in the last roaming area you were in until you make a call in a non-roaming area.

so lets say you go on a cruise... as we did... and you get on the ship, your phone registers with the chip which is international roaming... $5 a minute... after you get on the ship you turn off your phone.

Every time someone calls you... you incur a $5 charge... let me say that again... your phone is turned off... every time someone calls YOU, you get a $5 charge until you make a phone call from someone in a non-roaming area.

they have credited back some of the charges because I threatened to leave their service... but my bill is still $140 this month because of OTHER PEOPLES calls while my phone was turned OFF.
