The first car running on nothing but compressed air goes on sale next month in India. It can go 300Km on one tank, and costs $2 to refill that tank. The cars start at $8177, there will be 6000 on the first production line.

this is the same company that introduced the worlds cheapest car a while back:

Ok, this is getting fucking ridiculous!!

yes... ANOTHER bug in IE that's affecting my code

in html you can put &REG and it will convert it to a 'registered' symbol (an R in a circle)

well, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has decided to use the same text parser the window where you type your URL. The problem is that variables are separated by an & symbol... meaning if lets say you have the vairable REG_PROC it will screw it up and destroy your url....

here is a great little FUCK YOU for you microsoft!!

people can be so stupid sometimes: "Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price is sticking to his comments that the term "black hole," which a colleague used, is racist.Price also says language such as "angel food cake" and "devil's food cake" are also racially insensitive."

oh, so it's not a black hole, it's a photon-challenged hole?

get a fucking life

if there is anyone out there bored in LJ land I could really use some help today!
hugme: (sweetums)
Next weekend starting on the evening of the 3ed of July until that Sunday of the 6th I am going to be rocking the house!!! If you wan to come and join me please let me know!

ok... So maybe I'm being a *little* mis-leading (or maybe I'm being MORE accurate). By 'rock the house' I mean put up sheet rock... and by 'join me' I mean work.

Seriously though... the hanging of the sheet rock on the ceiling is not at all a one person job and I will be needing some help. Email me if you think you can show up one of those days... I will be needing the most help on the first couple of days... hopefully the last few days will just be finishing: applying mud, sanding. etc....

I will be supplying food and drink to anyone who shows up! Please, e-mail me if you can come!

Framing is passed!!!

Who wants to come put up sheetrock?
hugme: (Default)
Ok, I was up last night working on the house. did all the things the inspector told me to do no matter how ludicrous and called for another inspection today. When he showed up I told him I would be calling for an inspection every day until I passed...

He passed me this time!! woo-woo (finally)

tonight we will work on insulation

We will schedule the framing inspection for tomorrow

once that is done we can start on the sheetrock
hugme: (Default)
Ok, so last time the inspector was here he made me a list of all the things we have to do. I did them, every fucking one. Moving the sub panel because the ceiling in the room it was in is 5'9" instead of 6' took an entire day. Everything on his list passed. but he came up with a bunch of new bullshit.... and I do mean bullshit....

Want to hear what kind of bullshit rules there are?

if you have a staircase it counts as an entrance... even if the stairs are in the middle of the floor you have to have an outlet on each floor within 6' of the stairs... even if the stairs are in the middle of the floor... this means you have to have 4 outlets on the floor it comes form and 4 on the floor below plus 2 outlets on each side of the stair walls.. yes, that's a total of 10 outlets or almost an entire circuit.. even if the stairs are in the middle of the floor you have to add floor outlets even if those outlets are in a main through center of traffic so that they will be walked on constantly and become a serious hazard.

this is the third time we have failed inspecting.. and each time it's different bullshit they have come up with... this has gotten to the point where it's fucking ridiculous!!!

They wonder why people don't want to get permits... THIS IS WHY!!!

again, I will suggest if you can get away with not getting a permit... don't get one!

Really... wow... I knew Microsoft was crap but just damn, 'I' don't even believe this one.

I'm setting up some of the web site for my company. And I set up an error page, the error is in fact a re-direct. We do most of our testing in Firefox because none of us really like IE, however we do some testing in IE, we don't normally think to test the error page in both however. I mean, why would you.. it's an error page.. and a REALLY simple one at that. Here is the page:

<html><head>
<META http-equiv=refresh content="0;URL=[company url]">
</head><body bgcolor="#404040">
</body></html>

How much more simple can you get than that?

We pass through dev, and qa but in staging we can't get it to work. Well, staging is a different group and they test in IE. Well the error page is this weird generic 403 forbidden page none of us are familiar with. We think it's a network problem and spend 3 hours testing the network not understanding why these 15 servers in one vlan bring up the 403 error and all the other server connect fine.

We give up on the network as it seems to be working fine. Well, I finally found the problem. It's a bug in IE... sort of... the claim to have done it on purpose.

If an error message is smaller than 512 bytes IE throws it out and pulls up it's own error message.... No, I'm not kidding... I put a string of spaces in the file to bring it larger than 512 bytes and it works fine.

from the Microsoft page: "Because IIS 4.0 does not strictly follow RFC 2616, it returns Active Server Pages (ASP)-based Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) errors with a status code of 200."

what is their fix? "We strongly recommend that all users upgrade to Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6.0 running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003."

Why does this fix it? it seems IIS puts a large asp buffer in all it's errors. No matter what you set your error page to it adds this buffer... thus 'fixing' the problem...

You think I'm kidding? try it out.... or read the Microsoft page on it (the page below is specifically for the 500 error but it's the same for any error):

The Electrical inspection failed again! stupid bitches....

These inspections are supposed to be for safety... will someone please tell me how I'm safer because I have an electrical outlet within six feet of every door?!? and then explain to me how I am less safe because one of the outlets is six feet three inches from the door and not withing the six foot maximum?!?

When you are finished with that, explain to me why I need an outlet in the kitchen within 2 feet from the edge of the counter... and then another every 4 feet?

don't even get me started on the rules about ceiling fans... You can't build your own supports for a fan... even if the store bought supports aren't strong enough. I have had to buy store bought supports, put them in place then add my own additional supports because they don't make one which can support a fan hanging down 8 feet.

The rules about electrical wiring are so fucking stupid... they are not there for safety, there are in place so you will have to give more money to your contractors and local hardware store because of all the shit they put you through.
